What is the Early Years Foundation
Stage Framework?
The Early Years Foundation Stage is
a comprehensive framework which sets the standards for
early years development, learning and welfare from birth to five
years of age. It provides a structure to guide practitioners with
providing effective provision in their settings and builds on
previous guidance. There is also guidance on children’s development
and useful hints on planning and resourcing. This framework
combines previous guidance for the Foundation Stage, the
non-statutory Birth to Three Matters Framework and the regulatory
frameworks in the National Standards for Under 8s Day Care and
Childminding.
The Early Years Foundation Stage themes are comprised of
four complementary themes. Click on each of the themes here
